Course Description: Three hours lecture per week, plus laboratory as assigned by instructor. Suggested prerequisite: CGS 1000 or good computer background. This course will build on the study of integrated business software begun in CGS 1000 with intermediate to advanced work in Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Database management and Presentation software. Integrating these applications to solve complex business problems will be emphasized as the student builds an overall business portfolio with a common theme for each project. Additional special fees are required.
During the entire course you will be doing Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Database and PowerPoint projects to support a particular business. The business can be real or make-believe. But you will work with the same business throughout the entire course, and in the end create a valuable Online Integrated Portfolio Project. |

Assuming the student meets all the grading criteria, students may submit assignments using Microsoft Office 2000, XP, 2003, 2007 or even Open Office. (You can download OpenOffice.org for free; it is compatible with Office 97-2003.) However the textbooks and most assignments and examples use MS Office 2007 software. If Office 2007 software is not available from a PC at home or work, you may use the Computer Lab at SCF or utilize the free software trial downloads which are available from www.microsoft.com for 60 days. The Microsoft Office 2007 Compatibility Pack is available to allow previous versions of Office to open and convert Office 2007 documents. Work may also be saved from Office 2007 to Office 97-2003 formats.
As an SCF student you can now buy Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate for only $59.95. |

Microsoft Certification: The Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exams may be substituted for the hands-on final exam. For exam information click: Microsoft Specialist Testing. The Exams cost about $60-$90 each. It is very important that each student download the objectives list and master all the terms on the list before taking exams. You may also download sample exams. For exam credit to be received, the student must present passing score credentials for instructor verification by sending your instructor the URL for your online certification record. Travel to approved testing sites in Tampa or Ft. Myers may be necessary if you choose to take the MOS exams as an option to taking the regular in-class exams. Also you may try to call Ms. Griggy from MTI at 751-7900 x 2020.
