| NEXT FACULTY SENATE MEETINGS: Faculty Senate would like to invite you to join them for lunch and an update discussion in the cafeteria staff lounge on the Bradenton campus from 11:30 – 1 (Wednesday, February, 27th) and in the faculty building at 10 a.m. and again at noon on the Venice campus (Friday, February 29th). There are a few items that we want to update everyone on and would like to get an idea how things are progressing this semester in terms of faculty issues or the lack thereof. This is an informal lunch (come and go as you need to). Our items of discussion will be posted on our website after each meeting for those who wanted to but cannot attend. NEWS: For new full-time faculty who begin in August and whose
student evaluation data fall below the 85% or 1.0 benchmarks, the Chair
and Dean may elect to withhold decision on the Merit Step Recommendation
until the subsequent Spring student evaluation data are available. “[I]t is very important to get word to all faculty about what went on in the Board meeting today [2/20/08]. They are scheduling public meetings on both campuses for the 5 finalists in the presidential search the last week of March and the first week of April. Some Board members were very concerned that faculty be present in those meetings and express their opinions to the Board using the comment sheets that will be passed out in each meeting. The contents of those sheets will be summarized by HR and presented to the Board before they vote on the new president. It is IMPERATIVE that the voice of the faculty be heard in this decision, and these comment sheets are the best chance for that to happen! We need to flood those meetings with faculty members and fill out comment sheets [underline is mine] to let our voices be heard in this election! This is a great opportunity for all MCC faculty to have direct input into the choosing of our next president. We can’t miss it!” -- Ray Hundley
