Term Paper for LIT 2090
Example Paper 1
-- All papers will be typed and double-spaced with a one-inch margin all
around (5-7 pages (the works cited page does receive a page number in
succession)).
-- Remember to staple your paper before handing it in.
-- The works cited page should contain between 3 and 8 sources. Be sure your sources are VALID. You should use the Virtual Library to alleviate
this burden; however, if you choose to use “other” electronic sources, be
forewarned: If you attempt to include a source from the internet that is not
valid, then I will consider it an error and subtract that source from your
works cited page. If you are left
with under the minimum number of sources, then you will be docked half a letter
grade.
-- You are required to utilize at least one primary source and at least
two secondary sources.
-- Remember that even if you cannot find articles about your specific pieces of literature or your
focused thesis, writers frequently employ the same techniques and themes in
much of their work. Read as much
criticism as you can about your chosen work; you will be surprised how much
information is available to give you insight into your particular work.
Possible Options:
1.
Choose one of the
pieces (that we have read for class) and one piece you have read on your own
that employ similar qualities.
Construct your paper comparing and contrasting the similarities (or
differences) you find.
2.
Write a
comparison/contrast research essay focusing on one or so of the main components
necessary to Contemporary Literature.
Your essay should avoid lengthy plot summary of the primary sources
used. Here are some examples that you
may explore in your essay: How does each author use contemporary conventions?
What kind of commentary is each making about society? About the individuals
place in society? About women's roles in society? About race? About religion?
3.
If you are uniquely
drawn to a certain theme or an array of images cast by any of the work we have
discussed in class, then you are welcome to create your own paper topic
utilizing these elements (you were required to have this turned in by this
point). As long as your topic can be
backed up/proven by substantial references to the text then this option may
be for you.
