Course Description: The course meets Area IV of the AA/AAS/AS general education requirements. The course provides a study of the short story genre and will examine representative world writers of both traditional and experimental short story forms. This course meets part of the six-hour international/inter-cultural requirement.

Prerequisites: ENC 1101 and concurrent registration in or completion of ENC 1102 with a grade C or better.

Dinesen, Isak. Anecdotes of Destiny and Ehrengard. New York: Vintage International, 1972.
Attendance policy: Any student missing more than four (4) class hours may be withdrawn from the course. Be advised that class participation is an integral part of LIT 2020. This includes responding to questions and initiating dialogue. If a student has not read the assignment, he or she may be asked to leave the class and this will be counted as an absence.
Withdrawal Policy:
In accordance with the Manatee
Community College policy as stated in the college catalog, students may
withdraw from any course or all courses without academic penalty of a WF by the
withdrawal deadline as listed in the Manatee Community College academic
calendar. This semester this date is October 30. The student must take responsibility for initiating the
withdrawal procedure. Students are strongly encouraged to talk with their
instructors first before taking any withdrawal action.

15% Mid-term
All work assigned must be completed and due dates respected. Grades will be based on written work, class participation, and class attendance. Missing more than four class hours will result in one full grade deducted from your grade average. Likewise, if you are tardy more than 5 times, a full grade will be deducted from your grade average.
Late Paper Policy: Due dates must be respected. Papers are due at the beginning of the class hour. I will NOT accept papers in my faculty mailbox. If you choose to place a paper in my mailbox, I will not be held responsible for that paper. No make-up tests will be given without a written medical excuse. This includes your Mid-term. All assignments must be typed, double-spaced on regular bond paper. Please have your name, class hour and class day on each cover sheet. Late papers will only be accepted up to one week late with a full grade deducted. I will not accept a late paper more than one week late.
A grade of C or better is required for credit.
Statement of Plagiarism: Plagiarism is the use of ideas, facts, opinions, illustrative material,
data, direct or indirect wording of another scholar and/or writer—professional
or student—without giving proper credit. Expulsion, suspension, or any lesser
penalty may be imposed for plagiarism.
Standards of Conduct: :Students are expected to abide by all Lancer Student Handbook
