Immerse yourself in accounts of the goddess--look for stories, poems, visual images, songs, etc.
Keep an eye out for advertisements or newspaper or magazine articles that allude to the
goddess in some way.
Find a traditional text
(preferably a translation of an original text) of the goddess's
story. Be prepared to tell the story to the class. Include a xerox of the text
in your report -- start online with Goddess Links
to find a text
Discuss the importance of the
goddess in the culture in which she was worshipped.
How was she worshipped? What kinds of rituals were associated with
her? Were temples or shrines built to the goddess? How was she
represented visually in the culture? If your goddess was worshipped in
more than one culture, you may wish to do a comparison/contrast essay.
Find a re-imagining
of the goddess's story
by a 19th or 20th century
author -- a poem, a story, a novel, an art work, a piece of music, a play, a
dance -- In a 500-750 word
essay, discuss how
the modern author has interpreted the image of the goddess and for what purpose the author
has used the goddess.
Prepare a

work, bring in visual images, come dressed as the goddess if you like -- be
imaginative.
If you decide to do a PPT presentation, please post it to the WebBoard before
class for easy access in class.
