Group Presentation: Your group will select a topic of your choice from the Sustainability areas list, formulate a discussion question that concerns itself with a social or political policy and select a moderator. During your in-class presentation your group will follow the Dewey Sequence. See the panel critique sheet for how your will be graded. Each group member will receive both an individual and a group grade that will be averaged together for your grade on the assignment. Presentations will be approximately 25 minutes. Each student must submit an annotated bibliography of at least 5 sources at the time of their presentation.

Speech to Demonstrate: Using all the 7 pillars of support and TWO different types of visual aids (i.e., hand outs, power points, a real object, displays on the elmo, recording, etc.) You will demonstrate a practice, ritual, symbol, dance, musical style, art form, language, dress, or ceremony from another culture for 4-5 minutes. Basically, students will answer the question "how" something is done or should be done; show (demonstrate) rather than tell. You will also be asked to follow the rule of 3: explain-show-repeat (demo with description).

You will need a complete sentence outline labeling the pillars of support and including 3 annotated bibliographic sources that are used in your speech will be needed. Speeches will be graded on delivery, organization, research, outlines and visual aids. In order to receive credit, your outline is due at the time your speech is given.

Speech to Define: Using the guide sheet from the handous page on "definitions" you will present a 4-5 minute speech that defines a word, object, or concept that has significant meaning for you.

You must use at least TWO (2) visual aids. You will need a complete sentence outline which labels where 5 of the the eight (8) methods of definition are located. See the sample outline on the handouts page for reference. Speeches will be graded on delivery, organization, research and outline. Each student must submit an annotated bibliography of at least 4 sources at the time of their presentation. In order to receive credit, your outline is due at the time your speech is given.

Speech to Persuade: Using the Monroe Motivated Sequence, you will present a 6-7 minute speech designed to reinforce an existing policy or value. You will need a complete sentence outline which labels all the steps of Monroe's Sequence and includes 5 annotated bibliographic references that are used in your speech. Speeches will be graded on delivery, organization, research and outline. Your typed outlines will be reviewed before your speech during your assigned Consultation period. Failure to appear will result in 10 points being deducted from your outline grade. In order to receive credit, your outline is due at the time your speech is given.
