WRITTEN ASSGNMENTS AND EXAMS

Unit test questions will be drawn from in class lectures and concepts covered in class that can also be found in the text,
Concise Handbook of Public Speaking by Beebe and Beebe. If you need special assistance in testing, please contact me prior to the test.

Make-up exams will be permitted only in extreme instances and must be approved by the instructor. You will be responsible to go to the Testing Center in the Korcheck building to schedule your test time and to get a testing referral form. After you fill out the form either give it to me personally or leave it in my mailbox in building #3. No make up exams will be permitted during finals week.

There will be two exams. IT IS VITAL TO YOUR SUCCESS THAT YOU TAKE NOTES IN CLASS. Not all of the material covered in your exams will be in the text. The exams are short essay. The format will remain consistent. I will ask you to list, describe, and give me an example of the concepts that we cover in class. For instance: A. List 3 ways to begin a speech, B. Give a written example of each, C. Which would you use in a speech to persuade an audience to wear their seat belt?

Unit Test #1 The exam will include questions about the Panel and Moderator roles in a group, The Dewey Sequence, ABCD communication styles, and stagefright.

Unit Test #2 Speech Analysis Assignment
You will be given a guide sheet to follow for this assignment. It is posted on the web under "handouts-Speech Analysis) There is one vital speech assignment and it will serve as your second unit test. The assignment is to be TYPED. Please be sure to attach a xerox copy of the speech that you are analyzing. The assignment must be presented within the scheduled office hours of the day that it is due. Late papers will be accepted within a week of their due date and will be docked a letter grade. If you turn your assignment in on time, your assignment may be re-written. By resubmitting a complete and correct speech analysis assignment you can earn up to 10 additional points on your outline grade. Samples of the speech analysis assignment are available on request.
