GENERAL GUIDELINES

Papers are to be a full 8-10 pages in length. If you use in text pictures be sure to add an equal number of lines of text. The 8-10 page length does NOT INCLUDE the full sentence outline and works cited page. Papers are to be DOUBLE spaced and typed using a computer font of no less than 11 point and no more than 12 point. The margins should be one inch on all sides except on the bottom, which may be an inch and ½.

The works cited page should have at least ten sources. Use the MLA style for your papers. Place your paper in a double pocket paper folder with your paper, full sentence outline and works cited page on one side and the Xeroxed copies of research on the other.

(PLEASE ATTACH XEROX COPIES OF THE MATERIALS THAT YOU QUOTE OR PARAPHRASE.) Any observation, assertion, data, direct, or indirect wording of another scholar, professional, or student (anything that is not original with you) needs to be referenced in such a way that you indicate the source of your information.

Plagiarism is the use of ideas, facts, opinions, illustrative material, data, direct or indirect wording of another scholar and/or writer--professional or student--without giving proper credit. Should your paper be plagerized you will recieve an "F".

Take care that your paper is organized clearly. Work for smooth transitions between your outline elements and a summary of your position at the conclusion. At the beginning of your paper you will need a COMPLETE sentence outline including an essay map or thesis statement and sub-point development. If you would like to submit any of your outline or paper portions to me ahead of schedule, I will be glad to offer you feedback. I also have samples of completed papers above my mailbox in Building #3.
