Antigone

Due dates: Tuesday, Nov. 6th and Wednesday, Nov.7th

To the Greeks, moral value lay in the proper action, even if the consequences of that meant death. What is the basic conflict between Antigone and Creon? How many people die in the play? What causes these deaths? What do the causes of these deaths suggest about the Greek view of cause and effect? Whom do you consider the most tragic figure in Antigone? Is it Antigone or Creon? Why?

Cite examples in today's society where we are asked to choose between the laws of the state and the dictates of your conscience. What guiding principles do you use to decide your course of action?
