GENERAL GUIDELINES
Papers are to be a FULL 8-10 pages in length. If you use in text pictures be sure to add an equal number of lines of text. The 8-10 page length does NOT INCLUDE the full sentence outline or the Works Cited page. Papers are to be DOUBLE spaced and typed using a computer font of 11 point. The margins should be one inch on all sides except on the bottom, which may be an inch and ½. PLease number each page on the top right hand corner.

The Works Cited page should have at least ten sources. You may use web sites, but not exclusively. You may not use encyclopedias unless they are specialized. Those ten sources need to be incorporated into your paper. Use the MLA style of citation for your papers. Also list your name and page number on the top right corner of your paper beginning after the first page. Place your paper in a double pocket paper folder with your paper, full sentence outline, and works cited page on one side and the Xeroxed copies of the research you used in your paper on the other.

(PLEASE ATTACH XEROX COPIES OF THE MATERIALS THAT YOU QUOTE OR PARAPHRASE.) Any observation, assertion, data, direct, or indirect wording of another scholar, professional, or student (anything that is not original with you) needs to be referenced in such a way that you indicate the source of your information.

Plagiarism is the use of ideas, facts, opinions, illustrative material, data, direct or indirect wording of another scholar and/or writer--professional or student--without giving proper credit. Should your paper be plagerized you will recieve an "F". For further info on plagiarism click here.

Take care that your paper is organized clearly. Work for smooth transitions between your outline elements and a summary of your position at the conclusion. At the beginning of your paper you will need a COMPLETE sentence outline including an essay map or thesis statement and sub-point development. If you would like to submit any of your outline or paper portions to me ahead of schedule, I will be glad to offer you feedback. I also have samples of completed papers above my mailbox in Building #3.
