Course Description: Three hours lecture per week, plus laboratory as assigned by instructor. Suggested prerequisite: CGS 1000 or good computer background. This course will build on the study of integrated business software begun in CGS 1000 with intermediate work in word processing, spreadsheeting, database management and an introduction to presentation software. Integrating these applications to solve complex business problems will be emphasized. Additional special fees are required. |

All text assignments and examples use MS Office 2007 software. If this software is not available from a PC at home or work, you will need to use the Computer Lab at SCF. Free software trial downloads are available from this link within the MS website for 60 days. Student discounted software is available for purchase from Microsoft. As an alternative to using MS Office, students can try Open Office, however directions for using this software are not available in the text or from the instructor. |

Course Performance Requirements: Students may access course performance standards by clicking on the “Course Performances Standards” link at the following web address: http://www.scf.edu/Academ/Academ.cfm. A hard copy may be obtained from the instructor or from the Department Office. |

Student Responsibility: The responsibility for obtaining and completing all work rests solely upon the student. All assignments should be emailed to the instructor through the Angel distance learning software platform by the dates provided in the assignment schedule. Additional questions and correspondence should be emailed to the instruction through Angel email. Be sure to include a clearly stated subject line in all email correspondence. Chapters should be reviewed by the student before attending class. Students who are unable to take a scheduled quiz/exam must notify the instructor before the exam time period. If the instructor is not notified, the student will not be able to make-up the exam. Students are expected to abide by all Lancer Student Handbook guidelines. |

Attendance/Lateness: 100 total points are given to students that attend all scheduled classes on time. Points will be deducted for absences and lateness. |

Late Assignments Policy: All late assignments must be turned in within one week of the assigned due date. None will be accepted after that time allotted. All late assignments will be deducted 50% after graded. Late assignments will not be accepted the week before final exams. |

Withdrawal Policy: In accordance with the Manatee Community College policy as stated in the college catalog, students may withdraw from any course or all courses without academic penalty of a WF by the withdrawal deadline as listed in the Manatee Community College academic calendar. This semester this date is October 27. The student must take responsibility for initiating the withdrawal procedure. Students are strongly encouraged to talk with their instructors first before taking any withdrawal action. |

Course Evaluation: The instructor will post weekly grade updates through Angel. Each class assignment (15) is worth 33.33 points. Grading rubrics outlining specific assignment requirements are available for each assignment (found on instructor’s website). Additional student resources are available on the instructor’s website.

Microsoft Certification: The Microsoft Business Certification credential tests can be substituted for the hands-on final exam. Click here for exam information: Microsoft Specialist Testing The Exams cost about $60-$90 each. It is very important that each student download the objectives list and master all the terms on the list before taking exams. You may also download sample exams. For exam credit to be received, the student must present passing score credentials for instructor verification. Travel to approved testing cites in Tampa or Ft. Myers is necessary if you choose to take the certification exams as an option to taking the regular exams at SCF.
