Hi Class,

My Goals are to
a. give the student a solid background in Systems Analysis terms and concepts and also
b. make this required course as real as possible.

Two of my Tactics are to
a. have students define the common Systems Analysis terms and also
2. give examples for the underlined terms that would be appropriate to their own business to make the class more relevant.

Below is an example from some of your classmates of how the homework should be done – including both the definition and examples.

6.   Tactical plan – small-scale action to achieve the larger purpose
To expand the customer support group to answer email and telephone inquiries

6. Definition:   Tactical plan includes short term goals within a company strategy. A strategic plan includes goals (long term) and a tactical plan includes the objectives (short term) for those goals.
Example:
[Our] Strategic Plan:
a. Website (asp.net) with SQL backend
b. Exam 70-282 for the Microsoft Small Business Specialist certification
c. Listing in the Microsoft Partner Directory
d. CIS2321 for startup guidance
e. CAP2930 for SQL guidance for the website

5 An objective for you: An objective is something that a decision maker seeks to accomplish or to obtain by means of his decision.
Example: Quality Objectives
·Computerize the inventory control process
·Increase customers satisfaction
·Meet all defined customer requirements in a cost-effective way reflecting continuous performance improvement.
·Provide the best fuel price for customers and also with a good margin for the company
·Bring the latest technology to the store to  provide a better convenience for both customers and employees

·To achieve an initial gross profit margin of at least 30%, increasing that by at least 1% per year until reaching our final target of 33%.
·To sell $150000 gallons first year.

Below is another very easy example:

10 Application software: programs that perform specific user tasks.

Ex: we use Microsoft Access in our business to build databases

Doing Assignments and Definitions

The syllabus states in RED italicized print: "If the term is underlined, give a Definition and also include a realistic example from Your Adopted Business." There is also a sample of a Definition and an Example on the syllabus. I specifically pointed this out in our orientation. The chapter 2 terms read: Your mission statement; Your goals; ALL your constraints... Notice the word Your? The whole course is about YOU developing an IT solution to a problem or opportunity. You define each term AND show how each term relates to YOU or YOUR company. If you do not give examples for YOUR adopted business, you will automatically lose half credit for each underlined term.

When you turn in your definitions be sure to keep the underlined terms underlined.

By the way, instead of typing each term in, simply copy from the online syllabus and paste into your word processor, then add your definition and example.
