WELCOME Distance Learning Student,

This Distance Learning class is a more advanced course than the traditional in-person class. You must have some basic computer skills, a working email account, and access to Microsoft Office or our computer labs in order to take this course. But I think you will find it a wonderful way to take CGS1000. If you want, you can start the course now, before the mandatory orientation. ALL of the information below will be covered in detail in our orientation. (Some classes, like late start classes and face-to-face classes, do not have an orientation.)

Angel www.scfl.angellearning.com is your online "classroom" for this course. Each time you log in to Angel you will have access to the class resources that I have set up for you.

My Web site is: http://faculty.mccfl.edu/winterf/winterf.htm.

Click on the CGS 1000 DL link for your online syllabus; very specific directions are there.

Most of your assignments will be done using Microsoft Office. If you do not have MS Office or easy access to our computer labs, you should not take this course. You can use Office 97, Office 2000, Office XP, Office 2003, or Office 2007 for your assignments. The MCC labs have Office 2007. But Word assignments must be in .doc or .docx format; Excel assignments must be in .xls or .xlsx format. You can see this semester’s assignments by opening my online syllabus and clicking on the link for each assignment or going directly to the Grading Rubrics/Criteria folder at: http://faculty.mccfl.edu/WinterF/0ClassFolders/1000DL/1GradingCriteria/

All assignments will be submitted online with Angel through the [Assignment Dropbox].
1. Log on to Angel at: http://scf.angellearning.com
Use your MCC Email Username (Just the username, not the "@student.mccfl.edu") as your Angel Username and your MCC PIN as the Password. Your PIN should only have 6 digits in it.
2. Click on [Lessons] tab (see top of Angel window) to use the Angel [
Assignment Dropbox].

3. Click on [Assignment Dropbox] to see links to each individual assignment

All email for this class will take place by logging on to Angel at: http://scf.angellearning.com, and clicking on the [Communicate] tab.

If you successfully complete the 10 question extra credit Scavenger Hunt and upload your first assignment to the [Assignment Dropbox] before the orientation, you will NOT have to attend the orientation.

Don’t worry if all this sounds unfamiliar or complicated. Logging on and using Angel’s online classroom and discussing all of this is the whole thrust of our Orientation. (Some classes, like late start classes and face-to-face classes, do not have an orientation.) I am just trying to give you a little look at where we are going beforehand.

Hope to see y’all then.

Best Wishes for the course,

Professor Floyd J Winters
