A 10-point Welcome!
Great - you successfully logged on to Angel and you have read your first e-mail. WELCOME!
Well - we survived our hectic orientation session. Now things should be more relaxed. It looks like we have a great group of students with a good sense of humor. You can now work at your own pace, just be sure to meet the homework and test deadlines.
Please forgive me for warning you over and over about students who forget to take the quizzes or students who forget to click [Submit] or students who don't read email. I wish I could be Mr. EveryThingIsEasy during our first meeting - but my main concern is that you are all successful and almost all of you get A's or B's, and that this is a beneficial course for you.
1. Please try to only electronically contact me through Angel email for the rest of the course – that way we have a record of your communications which is all in one place.
3. Feel free to stop in and visit me if you have a question. (But visit the book and my extensive online help files first! Click Lessons > Links to Assignment Directions and Helpful Web sites.) See my office hours which are posted on the online syllabus. If you are going to stop by, it may be a good idea to precede your visit with an Angel email just in case I am out of town for a meeting. But I may be in the Computer Science lab in building 19 grading your assignments during my office hours.
4. There is something due almost every week. But I hope you enjoy doing your homework from home - on your schedule. Some people finish the class in three or four weeks.
6. Remember - we have several wonderful labs on campus. You can use Office 97, Office 2000, Office XP, Office 2003, or Office 2007 for your assignments. The MCC labs have Office 2007. But Word assignments must be in .doc or .docx format; Excel assignments must be in .xls or .xlsx format. These filename extensions are assigned automatically if you use Microsoft Word and Excel to do your work. I will not be able to grade projects that are submitted in other formats and I will take off 20 points and ask you to resend as an email attachment in the correct format.
7. If you have problems saving or if you use Microsoft Works be sure to Save As a Word or Excel file. See the SaveAs.htm file on your Website if you have any trouble saving files.
8. Feel free to explore your Angel site, but do not start a Quiz until you are ready to finish it. They are timed quizzes.
9. There are numerous help files on my FTP site at: http://faculty.mccfl.edu/WinterF/0ClassFolders/1000DL/SamplesFAQ/
such as:

10. Also note that both the Syllabus and my Web site have numerous hyperlinks to show you samples of how to do assignments or samples of what the assignment should look like.
The Web site has extensive examples. There is a folder for each application.
