Do not use spaces or special characters (', ", $, #) in your file names. That is do not call your assignment Bill's Letter.doc use, call it letter.doc instead (no space, no apostrophe).

When you save a Microsoft Word document, the file is automatically given a .docx (or.doc) extension. (The extension is the last 3 or 4 letters of the file name.) The Excel extension is .xlsx (or .xls); the PowerPoint extension is .ppt; and the Access extension is .accdb (or .mdb.) These extensions are added automatically. So DO NOT TYPE THE EXTENSION or rename the file to use the extension.
When uploading your assignment, Browse to find and Submit the file, and it shows the last 3 or 4 letters of the extension are .Docx and the letters ".docx" were automatically added, then it should be OK. Do NOT type the letters .docx yourself.
If you have another package, you may be able to "Save as" a Word or Excel file. Most programs have a Save As feature. 1. For instance, in Microsoft Word, click File on the main menu, and select Save As… 2. There should be three textboxes or entry boxes. A. One is for the file location or “Save in:”, such as floppy drive A: or C:\My Documents B. Another box is for the “File name:” such as Newsletter.doc C. The third box is often called “Save as type:” This box will allow Word to save files in Microsoft Works or Word Perfect format. If you are in Works and you Save As a Word file the extension (the last three letters) will change from .wps to .doc.
IF YOU CANNOT SEE YOUR EXTENSION and you have Windows 2000, XP or Vista If you use Windows Explorer and you cannot see your extension, do the following: Open My Computer or open My Documents Choose Tools; choose Folder Options; click the View tab, Uncheck the check box that reads “Hide extensions for known file types.” You can click OK to just set this folder or Apply to All for all Folders. Now you should be able to see your extensions.
If you do not submit your file in .docx or .xlsx format I will not be able to read it and I will take off 20 points. I will give you one more chance to submit it in the correct format and ask you to send the assignment to me as a WebCT e-mail attachment - with the proper extension. (Click on the WebCT Mail link and send me an e-mail attaching your assignment.) So pay attention to the extension automatically given to the file name when it is saved and it is listed in the WebCT upload dialog boxes. |
