PANEL DISCUSSIONS

Each roundtable group will present a panel discussion to the class .
Each individual in the group will focus on one member of the roundtable (questions 1 & 2 ), and the entire group will answer questions 3, 4 and 5 as part of the panel discussion.
In order to formulate the answers to the questions, you need to discuss them among the members of your group. You can do this in the
designated area on the Discussion Board, talk to each on the phone, set up a time to meet, or set up a chat on the Discussion Board.
Each member of the group must participate in the panel presentation in class by presenting her individual woman in questions 1 and 2 and participating in answering questions 3,4, and 5.  Of course, anyone on the panel can jump in at any time to comment.
Your panel discussion should last 20-30 minutes.

QUESTIONS

  1. What sort of influence was wielded by your woman? Be specific to each individual.

  2. If she was an author or artist of any type, specifically discuss at least one of her works;  if she wielded political or military power, specifically discuss at least one action for which she was responsible; if she was a religious figure, discuss how her life or work affected the practice of the religion she followed.

  3. How typical/atypical were each of your women in the society in which she lived? Describe the typical roles of women in these societies (a society can be construed as a family, community, class and/or culture) -- don't simple generalize -- find out what the roles of women were in each specific society.

  4. How did the members of your roundtable affect or redefine the role of women in her specific society?

  5. What can we today learn from these women?

WRITTEN REPORT

In a 750-1000 word essay, analyze at least one of the works attributed to your author.
Discuss the context of the work within the society in which the author wrote, the importance of the work, the author's style, and the author's purpose.
For background information, don't simply depend upon summary encyclopedia or internet sources -- look for primary and scholarly analyses.
Cite at least four sources (which should include at least one primary work, one scholarly or biographical book, one academic article and one internet source) in your essay.
Use correct MLA documentation for your in-text citations and Works Cited List.
